Here's a quick report on my 10 ghz activities today (Labor Day).....
Saw the postings for Gary (WB0LJC) & Mel (KC0P) so decided to try to =
work the paths from the Shakopee-Scott County Radio site, but found no =
visibility in the direction needed....too many trees, metal fences, =
hills, homes....you name it....But, did drive a little farther (2 miles) =
South on Zumbro Ave and parked on the ROW along a bean field.... =
somewhat better horizon (tree lined out about 3-4 miles, although =
looked to be able to get over them.....but, the best site that was =
immediately available ..The location was EN34fr at 44d43m05s N & =
93d32m48s W.....Gary was at Chubb Church at EN34jn....Part of my =
interest today was to find more sites in the SW and a little closer to =
the home QTH....
Gary & I both worked Mel at both sites Mel visited (EN33xn, Harmony & =
EN43co, Maple?).....Mel's signals at my location were 5/1 SSB at both =
sites....but, good copy! Distances for me were 110 & 116 miles =
respectively...I think Gary had a better copy on Mel.....
Gary and I also managed to barely make the Q from his obstructed =
location (EN34jn)....no signals heard initially, but very weak 5/0 copy =
after Gary elevated his dish as high as it would go to light up the tree =
tops in a scatter attempt....=20
I also tried to hear Don (Wa2VOI) & Bob (W0AUS) off the downtown =
buildings......... No success....I was looking directly into the side of =
a hill with trees within 200 yards obstructing the path. This is not a =
good site for working North or off downtown....
But, good fun for an afternoon.... Thanks to everyone!
=20
