I also have a Samlex SEC-1223 which I use to power an FT-897. I have
heard no noise from it whatever. It gets ever so slightly warm when in
use and I don't think I have ever heard the fan. The board inside, as
near as I can tell, is identical to that in the Yaesu FP-1023 and also
to that in the Radio Schlock 23 amp switching supply. A friend, K0LR,
bought on of the RS units on sale and finds no noise or other problems
with it, either. Best thing is that they are so light weight.

Also, it is almost exactly the same as the Yaesu FP-1023 when you look inside both of them. Coincidence? I think not, it looks as if Samlex produced the power supplies that Yaesu put there name on. Take the covers off both and you will see how similar they are. And the Samlex costs under a $100.
