Well, I'm sure everyone on this list is more knowledgeable on this
topic than I, but since when does that stop me from giving an opinion?
I've been using an Alinco 330MV 35A adjustable switching supply on
my 706 and a friend's 222 FM rig. I've had no problem with fan noise;
in fact the fan in the 706 is far noisier than that of the power supply;
I don't know that I've ever been able to hear it at all. It has a
front-panel switchable volt/ammeter.
I've never worked HF with this power supply, so I can't speak to the
RF hash issue, however it does have a dial on the front panel which
apparently you can use to move the hash out of the way if you should
need to do so.
Overall I've been quite happy with it, though admittedly it's gotten
very little use due to the fact that I'm usually only active during
VHF contests.
