I've run most of my home station off of the same Astron RS-35M regulated PS
for at least the last eight years or more. It just sits there and works. I
recommend metering as it helps with trouble shooting; for instance when I key
down on 1296 I know that I should see 2 to 3 amps of current on the PS meter,
etc.

If you are looking for a stay-at-home PS and if you have the room in your
shack, I would recommend a standard regulated PS. They are easier to fix. The
switchers are significantly smaller and lighter but often incorporate a fan
for cooling .... if you are going portable the smaller & lighter is a big big
big plus. When I bought my FT100D I also bought the matching switching power
supply that goes with it and it does indeed make a very nice portable package.

Be aware that the magnetic field from the regulated PS transformer can induce
hum if you place it within several inches of your rig .... don't set your rig
on top of the PS or immediately next to it.

Unless your doing the Pikes Peak hill climb, I'd go with a metered regulated
PS. If portability is important, the switchers are nice ... be aware of the
fan noise.
