Well here is the scoop for the Field Day operation
here in Eau Claire. We will be setting up at the
Silvermine Ski jump site here in Eau Claire.
Hopefully getting out there early morning on Saturday
(7am at the latest) to set up. The bands covered will
be as follows:
HF: 160 thru 10 meters
10 thru 40 during the day for the most part and
switching to the lower bands at night with 14Mhz
whenever.
VHF+: 50, 144, 222, 432, 1296 Mhz as per the other
week's VHF contest. Running horizontal.
Modes: Phone and limited CW
We will be running one VHF station and at least one HF
station, so look for us on VHF near the calling freqs
as well as on HF. Remember we can band/mode switch
instantly on VHF+, but only in 15 minute increments on
HF. And phone and CW count as separate bands across
the board, so let us know the capabilities, and we
will try and do some multimode contacts as well as
multiband.
The plan is to run a 2B2 operation for the most part,
but if Darrell (KB9LVK) and Justin (K9MU) are planning
on going the full stretch, we will be running a 3 op
station at 150W or less. We should have enough room
to run up to 4 Xmitters if need be in case someone
else wants to go the distance with up also, but 3 is
probably the comfy limit...*L* Anyhoo, we are
planning to be located at the top of the hill just
under the jump itself weather permitting. Good
weather, up top, bad weather we will locate below the
hill in the main parking lot. The reason being for
this is the access to the top is through a gentleman's
driveway and yard, so if it is bad weather, he does
not want traffic tearing up the dirt driveway and path
through the yard. Also because of this, as a courtesy
to him, I am asking (as a courtesy to him) that if
anyone comes to visit/contest, to park below the hill
in the parking lot area and hike (long hike) up the
hill. If it is inclemant weather, this won't matter
as we will be down below anyhow, just watch out for
cables and guys. Instructions on how to get to the
site are as follows:
I-94 to the Hwy 37 exit (exit 65). Turn north toward
Eau Claire on hwy 37. When you reach the first set of
lights (bank on the East side, and hotel on the West
side), turn left (West). This should be Short street
(if it is even named at that point) You will go past
American materials, and some other businesses, cross a
bike trail, and eventually a bridge. just over the
bridge Short street ends at Ferry Street. Turn left
on Ferry, go about a block and turn right up the hill
on Crescent Street. Follow Crescent street out past
the interstate overpass, stay left (straight) at the
intersection and follow the road out about a half mile
give or take. Just before you start heading up a
slight hill (toward Fanny Hill and Sportsmans) there
is a road that jogs off to the left called Silvermine
Drive, turn there and follow Silvermine out along the
river until it opens up to a field on your right. The
gate should be open, just drive on in and park
somewhere there. You cannot miss the Ski Jump once
you are there. As I said, good weather we will be up
top, bad weather, we will be below. Would be nice to
see you if you have nothing else planned. For those
outside WI by a good ways, just listen for us.
TNX and hopefully hear or see you this weekend.
