June 2003 ARRL VHF QSO Party
W0OHU report
Some of you may not have heard, but we moved from the Kasson/EN34oa QTH
early
May. So I, (like Rich/HJZ) basically did not have a station for contest.
Time for "Plan B". So
with Fathers Day weekend to complicate things more, I decided to operate
from the
Rochester IBM radio club station (W0IBM - EN34sb), using my call. This gave
me less
of a station on 144 & 432, but a better station on 50, plus I got to have
222 this way.
Here are my results for a VERY limited time operation:
I was there Sat 9pm-1am Sun
then Sun 7:30pm-10pm (end of contest)
6.5 hours of operating time
I basically only went to 6m when someone wanted me to QSY there,
as I kept busy on 144-1296 (my priority bands).
Condx (144 & up) were fair on Sat night and not good on Sun night
(6 was open both nights when I was there)
Band Qs Grids
50 15 8
144 25 9 (306mi best)
222 9 5 (220mi best)
432 10 6 (220mi best)
1296 6 3 (195mi best)
---- ----
65Q 31G
score = 96 x 31 = 2976
(rate 458 pts/hr)
about 25% was done on CW
I was glad to see Curt - K9AKS operate very near our old Minnesota VHF
contest site
in the SE tip of the state (Reno, MN), where we contested many years between
1959 and 1974 (before there were grids!).
