Hi Mike,
I have a marker on 24 GHz. I use a Frequency West Brick that was labeled
11.6 to 12 GHz and uses an external reference. I have a 108 MHz xtal osc
I use for a reference. I tuned the 108 so the output on the Frequency is
12.050 GHz. It has about 14 mw out. It works well as a marker on 24.100.
I had to retune the output filter on the brick to 12 GHz and it works fine.
Donn and I have used it to check where we are.
I have an HP 5340A counter that is rated to 19 GHz but does work up to a bit
over 24 GHz.
Thanks for the HEADSUP on the e-bay 24 GHz amps. I got one.
John, W0FQA, Gary, W0GHZ, and I just worked on rain scatter.

Subject: [NLRS] If I wanted to be a beacon...
How would I build myself?
I want to build a 24.192 Ghz beacon / signal source. Here is what I know
and hope that some of you fine folks have some ideas. Cause Im going to
central states in a few weeks and perhaps parts may show up?
This would make a good beacon project as well as a weak signal source for
testing, etc. Perhaps just set up when doing 24 ghz with a 17 db horn, that
way with that wide beamwidth, would make it easy to find at least one side
to get pointing going.
Easy way...
Get a DB6NT MKU 24LO - it has a 24,192,900 output, +/- 100 KHZ. good power
out, 5mW. It would drive one of those new 1 Watt amps really nice.
However, it too would seem to far away from 24,192.100 for any good use. To
much QSying around.
Fun way...
Find a LO and drive one of those 2x multipliers from ebay. +7dbm output.
(only 39 bucks)
So, the question is where do I find an LO or build, etc.
DB6NT has a 12.024 Ghz LO, but its the same price as the MKU 24LO, so that
makes no sense.
I would like to get an LO that was 12.096 Ghz so it was right at 24,192 Ghz
with a 2x Mult. Stability would be nice.
Can anyone point me in the right direction as far as options here? I have
heard that PLL would be good for freq stability. But tend to be noisey?
Perhaps as a beacon, this is not an issue.
Might be a fun project and I would learn a ton as well.
Keying and all that buiz, will cover later once the LO issues are resolved.
Thanks!
