While the discussion has evolved to pleas for use of directive (read 'GAIN')
antennas by rovers, I've only seen a few answers to the original question,
regarding omni antennas for 1296.

I remember the Double Diamond/Iowa Bug Slicer antennas from NA0IA's
presentation on "The Art of the Rover" at the 2002 CSVHFS Conference. I
haven't used them myself and I am not aware of anyone selling them
commerically but they look fairly easy to build. There is a pdf with
dimension information at the Cedar Rapids Microwave Society's Web site
http://www.rf.org/crms/projects/DoubleDiamondAntenna.pdf and pictures at
http://www.rf.org/farmers/n0cih/ (look especially at pics 4 and 5 to see the
slotted screw method for connecting the element to the connector flange).

>From the Antenna Range results at 2002 CSVHFS: 5.1 & 6.3 dBi Gain at 902 and
8.3 & 8.5 dBi Gain at 1296. K0DAS had them for both bands, N0CIH had one
for 902 and NA0IA had one for 1296.

73, JK (K9, that is)
