Hey Matt, I appreciate your comments on transverters.

Yeah, I figure I can't escape working CW forever. At least I have my upgrade,
but we're not here to discuss HF now, are we? It would be ironic if my first few
CW QSO's were on microwaves, not HF!

Anyhow,,,, about the choice of bands....

I want to start out with 2m, because its just a great band! I am astonished at some
of the DX on 2m that people have been reporting this summer. As far as the other bands
go, I'll probably just work my way up one band at a time.

I must ask, however, is there anything particularly interesting about 222 with regard
to the HTX-10? Well, I do suppose perhaps its because 2m is generally used for the
IF rig at 432 & above. I've also heard of the 220 mods for the Ten-Tec 1210.

I also mention 1.2G and skip over 900MHz just because 1.2G seems like such a cool
band. 60MHz of spectrum all with Amateur as Primary. (I might be wrong on that). I have
listened on 1.2G with my Icom R3, and my TH-F6A and never heard anything. That's
the whole point! Not any intermod from paging systems less than two miles from my house.
I seems like a nice quiet band with lots-o-room! I'd hate to see us loose it from lack of
use like the lower part of 220. I *almost* bought an Icom T81A as my first HT, but it was
butt-ugly and I heard bad things about the battery clip, etc. I passed up 900MHz just
I perceive it to be QRM hell with all of those ISM devices out there, but again, no practical
experience to back that impression up.

And finally, I want to ask one other question, if anyone in the group can answer...

I have one of those Mirage dual-band "docking boosters" I picked up at the Midwinter
Madhouse last year. Now that I have a few more radios, I really dont use it much.
I am thinking that it should be possible to modify it for class AB operation, and thus
be useful as a linear amp for 2m & 70cm. "Should be possible", but I'd like to know
if anyone else has tried. It would be nice to get my 10W Ten-Tec unit amplified up
to 40-45W. It puts out a very healthy 35-40W on 70cm too!
