Good Morning everyone, Just a quick thanks to all of those who followed me
( or tried to follow me) last weekend and an apology to those who I did not
get to work as time was running out. My Qso count is up from 2001 so I am
happy about that and this time out Murphy did not visit me! Usually
something needs attention but not this time. I ended up only activating 16
of the planned 18 grids but I had a clean sweep with Mike Km0t on all bands
including 5.7 and 10 ghz. some of the distances worked on those bands are
EN01 to EN13- 124 miles with 5x5 to 5x9 signals. En 34 to En13 128 miles and
similar signals and the longest was EN31 to EN13-134 miles with 5x5
signals. This was a bit more difficult since I was getting tired and it was
dark( 45 minutes before the end of the contest) and it was more difficult to
get a feel for the pitch of the rover so It was harder to tell if I need to
elevate of lower the dishes to level them but we did complete.
I did try with W0GHZ and heard him real well on 5.7 but he could not
hear me. He is running 20 watts I believe and I was running 250 miliwatts.
Started in EN01 in NE and it had raining all morning and the wind started up
and every power line in the country was noisy 8 of the grids activated are
in NE and SD and the ham density is sparse. Thanks to N0LL, N0KQY,WB0HHM,
WB0ULX, KM0T,W0BJ,K0KD and others for making that part of the rove active.
The only bad experience I had was in Southern SD when a local individual
decided he wanted to stop and see what I was doing and would not ID himself
other than to say he was from around there but he wanted to see my ID and
said he would give this info to the local sheriff. Man If I wanted to do
something shady I would think I would drive something a little less
noticeable! You have to understand that where I was in SD you could see for
miles and the local farms or ranches were spread out so there was nothing
there but cattle and farm ground! Guess there is a larger awareness, just
hope people do not get crazy with it.
Thanks to all
