[NLRS] USB to Serial Adapter for Icom PCR-1000

I have a USB-to-Serial adapter that I use successfully on a Toshiba laptop
to control my FT-1000MP, Timewave PK-232 terminal unit, Kenwood TH-F6A
handheld, and so on with no problem whatsoever.

When I try using the same converted to control an Icom PCR-1000 receiver
with Bonito's Radio Works 4.0 software, I get an error message that says it
can't find the receiver.  I am using Windows 2000 Professional with Service
Pack 3 on a late-model Toshiba notebook.

Any suggestions as to another USB-to-Serial converter that anyone has had
good luck with...or any other suggestions on something I may be overlooking.

P.S.  I have the receiver and the software working on a workstation with a
true serial port and both the receiver and the Bonito software is way
cool...very impressive VHF and UHF performance with satellite imaging, sstv
and other toys for well under $400.
