Hi all, I got up at 4 this morning to look at the "big shower" and
listen to the radio. I saw a few meteors (14 with 3 of them being real
big, and 1 satelite in a 45 min period) and heard the locals calling cq.
I think I heard some real faint things but not enough to id. I heard
k8to calling a 7 station for a long time, and ghz (does he transmit with
about a million watts?) 60 over 9 calling out. I also heard lots of
noise I couldn't identify, kind of crackeling upto s7 and then it would
go away. I also heard what I think might be called splatter, i.e. when
ghz was transmitting on 205 and I was listening to 210 I would get noise
in the s5-9 range but nothing understandable. I have an IC 706mkIIg I
was using, is this something an internal filter might take care of? A
mechanical filter I think they call them sometimes.
The only thing that I think I clearly heard that might have been a
scatter was W7 clear as day and then nothing ever again.
Well that's my rambleings for the morning, thanks for any ideas or thoughts.
Mike
