Hi Gang -
As we all know, frequency determination at VHF and higher is a bit more
than just setting the digital readout to the correct number. This is
especially so when there is a converter or two in line before the
digital readout box. I note a spread of a couple hundred Hz or so in the
observed frequency of stations calling on 144.2 all of whom, I think,
believe that they are on 144.20000000. Of course as we go higher, it
gets worse. In the interest of finding a standard that we can all easily
access, it seems to me that the WA9HCZ beacon in La Crosse is quite
stable. I know what frequency I think its on. I'd be interested to know
what the rest of you think. Please email me direct so we don't clutter
up the reflector with this. I'll publish the mean frequency and the
spread when I get the results in. Since the beacon is FSK, lets use the
MARK frequency, i.e. the one we can copy, as the standard.
With bated breath, CJ K0CJ
