Mike,
You'll like this, when I went deer hunting last fall standing in my tree, I
took my FT-817 with me into northern MN around Aitkin and put a dipole in
the trees. On Sunday morning there is a gathering of current and former
Minnesotans on 14.253 at 10:00 CST/CDT. I ended up talking for about an
hour to Mike k0bud, Ray kd0dk along with others in Mpls and AZ and also Rick
k0xb up in Ely. There was some comment from Mike that maybe I needed more
that All this on battery power which is about 3.5 watts on high power. Of
course at 10:05 the energy of the biggest solar flare in November hit the
earth which turned the DX off like a light and caused the local signals to
enhance. 36 hours later we had some of the best Northern Lights I have
every seen up there and everybody down here was on VHF. Oh well!
Yes, I did still get my deer and filled another tag in the party.
