Hi Phil,
Thanks for the warm thoughts. Appreciated.

You're welcome to "tag along" with me anytime, and I'm sure that goes =
for
any of the others, too. We try to keep everyone up to date on plans by
using the reflector (sometimes more so than others). We're trying to =
drum
up new business.

re: LOS paths
Several years ago, we started out with wide-band FM (WBFM) on 10GHz. =
Our
first "real" Qs were over a 14.8 mile LOS path from Mounds Park in St. =
Paul
down the Mississippi to near Hastings. (Even then, it wasn't "easy," =
but it
worked.) Mounds Park to the State Capitol Overlook is 2-3 km.; to the =
S end
of the HighBridge is 3-4 km. The sites we use near Canno Falls and =
Vasa are
about 10 miles, and I'm pretty sure that you can see ground level at =
each
end. The site at Red Wing to Jacobs Ave W of Hastings is about 20 =
miles,
and is LOS. =20

One thing that might be possible is the path from Mounds Park to New =
Trier.
About 25 miles, and NOT LOS... but the Hastings site is midway. The =
ridge
that MN55 runs on W of Hastings is the blocking horizon. Could you get
enough scatter of of the trees, etc., to make it work ? It works just =
fine
on 10GHz WBFM. SSB is a piece of cake.

Let me know if any of these are what you're looking for, and I'll get =
you
more detailed locations, etc.

And again, you're more than welcome to ride along with me. I kind of =
doubt
that we'll be doing anything until after CSVHF in Milwaukee 25-28th. =
I've
got to spend time this week and weekend getting ready for that. But, =
you
never know... if conditions are good, screw the conference!

Subject: [NLRS] 10 Ghz Activity

I'd like to commend everyone involved with the 10 GHz
activity in the local area. I really enjoy reading all
the posts here on the reflector! It has been great
following the Genesis from local contacts to real DX.
Keep up the good work! I don't have the available time
to actually get into this the way I'd like to but I
would love to come out and tag along sometime at one end.
Until then I'll read every post and follow along.

My current project is trying to make a pair of LASER
transceivers capable of light wave DX. I have started
to get some of the parts together and am researching
high performance receivers. I plan on using a couple
high gain receiving "antennas" which will be 8"
Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes. My first path I have
planned out is about 5 1/2 miles. After reading some
other information on the Internet I know it will be
possible to push that distance out a ways. If anyone
knows of some good LOS paths I'd love to check them
out.

Keep up all the good work. I predict an excellent NLRS
showing in the ARRL 10 GHz contest this year!
