I do believe that the Lowfer boys have been using a type of PC/soundcard
based weak signal detection & decoding method that uses very very slow CW
with dsp filtering and long integration time to receive signals that are
significantly below the noise level and that are not detectable by the
human ear. This sounds interesting !! In some cases, the integration
times are measured in days ..... perhaps not useful for contesters !
Also, frequency stability at VHF/UHF may be an issue with this approach as
well as the filter bandwidths are very tight (as I recall). None the
less, this particular approach may offer something for copying weak signals
that are significantly below the noise. For exchanging minimum
information (like "EN34") in the shortest possible time (say 15 minute ???)
given signals that are significantly below the noise floor, this seems like
a better approach than a multitone signal like PSK31, etc. Also, it
should be phase tolerant.
