Hi All -
A fun weekend on the radio! As advertised, I spent part of the weekend
multi-op'ing with my 10 year old, John. He would operate for a while then go
do something else. I think he did a pretty good job with all the exchanges.
His difficulty was in getting guys to QSY to other bands - "Can you QSY to
234?!" John really enjoyed filling in the grid maps we posted on the wall.
Sure made me hunt for mults! We probably operated for only about 14 hours
this weekend.
Our station was 4 elements on 6M, a 12 element yagi (just over the rooftop)
for 2M and a log periodic for 222 & 432. Partway through the contest the log
periodic went south. Not sure if it was the antenna or the feedline but the
SWR got to be too much. Just ran 6 & 2 for the better part of Sunday. I was
suprised I could work 10 grids on 432 with a log periodic!
Conditions sucked! The highlight was a little meteor scatter on 6M and some
F2 backscatter on 6M. The rovers were good to hear. It was hard to work
them out more than 100 miles with the poor conditions and the omni's.
I only have two complaints - 1) Please don't ragchew on 144.200. You may be
covering up a distant station. This seemed to happen repeatedly over the
weekend. 2) We have a lot of room on 2M. People would QSY and not move
much. I'd hear - "Let's QSY down 5 kHz." If you are going to QSY with a
local, please move about 50 kHz or more. Most of the weekend everyone was
great!
Thanks to everyone who was patient with my multi-op partner! He's fired up
about radio! Here is our score:
50 MHz - 86 x 24
144 MHz - 103 x 18
222 MHz - 23 x 8
432 MHz - 43 x 10
TOTAL - 255 x 60 = 19,260
