Yep, the update request is a bit early this month, but with the holidays
coming up, I thought that I would get this note out so that you can work on
your updates over the long holiday. Get me you input by New Years Day and
I will post the updated standings on Thursday, Jan 2.
Ed, W0OHU, has played around with some of the numbers from last months
update. So far, less than 47% of all the states & provinces worked have
been on 6m, or, said the other way 53% have been on 2m and up. More than
27% of the total of all states & provinces have been worked on 2m alone.
There has been some discussion about working states & provinces while
portable and having those contacts count with your home station standing.
I believe the current States Above rules indicate that the ARRL WAS rules
apply and those rules indicate a maximum of 50 mile between any two
operating locations. In the recent CSVHF letter Bruce has indicated that
the VUCC rules that indicate a 300 meter (1000 foot) rule may be more
applicable. Perhaps we will need some further clarification on this point
from Bruce in the future as to which rules are in play for this years
running.
With the holidays coming up you can bet on a pretty good E or Au opening
right when all the relatives are over at your place. Mid to late December
typically provides for a small secondary peak in the E's season just ahead
of the doldrums of January & February. In addition, things look
favorable for some Au activity over the next couple of days. Hope you
all work a bunch of new states over the holidays.

Remember that the objective of this CSVHF Society sponsored event is to
promote activity in the world above 50 MHz. Work 30 or more states plus
provinces, submit your score to Bruce at the conclusion of the event (just
before Central States), and receive a nice looking certificate. Full
rules & forms for this operating event can be found at www.csvhfs.org, or
just ask.
