Hi Gang:

Well here's the wrap-up report for the first weekend. I didn't mean to
slight any of the Illinois-Michigan operations that I had on Saturday in my
earlier message. It was different but a heck of a lot of fun. While you
guys were battling winds, we had beautiful weather. Saturday was truly a
nice day. I ended up with 2266 points for the first day with only 9 Q's.
It shows the value of LONG distance Q's. 3 with K2YAZ at 190, 180, and 160
miles. One each with WB9SPT and WB8TGY at 167 miles. All the rest were
shorter.

Sunday, although I was pushing myself with not much sleep, still was a great
day. How bout that weather? I got on the radio at about 7am to see what
was going on. I was out the door by 8:30am on my way to Red Wing. When I
arrived about 9:05 am, the gate was still locked. Bummed, I started towards
my other location. But then I turned around thinking that the park just HAS
to be open on such a nice Sunday. By the time I made it back to the park,
the gate was open. I tried calling KB0LYL on simplex freqs to see if he
knew what time the park opened but never found him.

I got up to the top of the hill and all set up. I quickly worked LJC, GHZ,
SHF, and KFC. Then I relocated to Vasa and quickly worked SHF/KFC so that
they could move. Then I worked UK GHZ, LJC VOI, AUS and then SHF/KFC again
at their next location. All took about 50 minutes at the Vasa stop. Then
on to my third spot at Cannon Valls. In just 5 minutes I banged out 4 q's
and then was on my way to Mounds Park.

At Mounds Park I was gratified by the new callsigns. Thanks to all those
guys who came out. See W0ZQ's summary email on how to get on Narrowband.
On the Sunday I picked up 2555 points so now my current total is at 4821. I
had a dinner-date in Alexandria at 5pm which I made exactly on-time however
my plans for Q's from Monticello had to be scrapped. Sunday I had 22 Q's.

I know not all of you want to go to Lake Superior for September. In my
case, I am and looking forward to it. I will be in the middle of my annual
vacation and some time on the shores of Lake Superior is just how I want to
spend some of my vacation. I seriously want to end the contest on Brockway
working whoever will/can work me.
