[NJARC] Newsletters should be free

Thanks to all for your input. I have reviewed all suggestions and want to add the following....

Dave Sica (below) says membership is around 200.

I have gone to the museum on several occasions in the last couple of years and in my estimation very few members contribute their time there. It appears that 10 or 12 regular, dedicated, members are doing all of the work, and are doing it well. Saturdays and Sundays I don't know.

But you would think that with 200 members we should have more than 5% helping out.

But at the auctions a higher percentage show up, perhaps 30-50, sometimes more and sometimes less? Still not the 200 mentioned. Perhaps at the radio show in Parsippany there is a better turn out of members, I don't know?

Launching a publicity drive to attract new members and making our excellent newsletter available with dates and times of activities (old newsletters don't have current events listed) to invite them to show up and see for themselves. It costs nothing to provide newsletters from our web page. No printing of brochures, etc.

Our volunteer force is ageing, I've noticed, and could use more help. Some may be working way (physically) too much for their age? Wouldn't it be nice to gain another 5, 10, or 15 volunteers? Perhaps some younger members?

The president should launch a publicity drive and make it happen. Maybe he can recruit a new volunteer or two to help him do that.

The club has always hovered around 200 members, after fairly quickly ramping up to that level in our first year. That's a healthy number by any standards but I've always wondered why we seemed to level off there. I seem to recall that the New England Club hit around 800 members, at least for a while, back in its heyday. I think a couple of other clubs also have or had significantly more members than we do. And yeah, we do have an exceptionally good club, so I've never been able to figure out why that's so.
