[NJARC] Newsletters should be free

I have a feeling that this maybe a solution in search of a problem.
Perhaps it is time to survey new members and find out how they discovered NJARC and go from there.  If I was to venture a guess, I think it would still be by word-of-mouth.
Out of curiosity, how many dues paying members does NJARC currently have?  If memory serves me well, membership has always hovered around 400 give or take.  Is this still the norm?
NJARC, in my mind, is an exceptional club.  Most radio organizations I have had the pleasure to visit have nowhere near the membership or the variety of programs.  The only club I have seen that comes anywhere near to the membership and breath of programs of NJARC is the Vintage Radio and Phonograph Society (VRPS) located in the Irving-Dallas-Fort Worth area of Texas.
Anyone have first hand knowledge of other similar sized clubs?
Jim

I GUESS IT ALL BOILS DOWN TO WHAT OUR GOAL IS. DOES KEEPING OUR BROADCASTER FREE ATTRACT NEW MEMBERS WITH ALL THE INFO IT GIVES, OR DO WE LIMIT THE CURRENT BROADCASTER TO DUES PAYING MEMBERS? IN VIEW OF THE FACT THAT BACK ISSUES ARE AVAILABLE FOR FREE ANYWAY, I STILL AM OF THE OPINION THAT EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE ACCESS TO OUR NEWSLETTER, MEMBER OR NOT. IT IS A FORM OF ADVERTISEMENT.  TO OUR MEETINGS, PARSIPPANY  SWAP MEETS, TAILGATE SWAP MEET,  REPAIR CLINICS, REGULAR MONTHLY MEETINGS (WHICH ARE NOT LIMITED TO CLUB MEMBERS, AS A FEW GUESTS ARE ALWAYS INTRODUCED BY RICH EVERY MONTH). YES, SOME PEOPLE WILL GAME THE SYSTEM, NOT PAY DUES BUT AVAIL THEMSELVES OF OUR LARGESSE,  BUT IT IS NO DIFFERENT THAN GOING TO CHURCH, OR ANY FREE EVENT, WHERE SOMETHING IS GIVEN, AND DONATIONS ARE THEN REQUESTED. SOME WILL GIVE, SOME WILL NOT. DO WE KEEP PEOPLE AWAY FROM A CHURCH SERVICE, OR ANY COMMUNITY EVENT, BASED ON THEIR COMMITMENT TO PAYING, I THINK NOT. UNTIL WE LIMIT OUR MEETINGS, REPAIR CLINICS, SWAP MEETS TO MEMBERS ONLY,  WITH A MEMBERSHIP CHECK AT THE DOOR,  WE ARE LIMITING OURSELVES TO GROWTH, AS THERE IS NO BETTER WAY TO ATTRACT NEW MEMBERS THAN BY SHOWING THE PERSPECTIVE NEW MEMBER ALL THE BENEFITS OF OUR CLUB.  ROB FORTE

  Rob,

The long standing theory is that we have a number of faithful NJARC members, some in remote locations, whose primary participation is reading the Broadcaster.  I have personally done this in the past with other clubs, and remain a member of AWA.   It's a little hard to judge the financial impact of freeing up the newsletter.

I vote don't fix it if it ain't broke.

I THINK YOU ARE RIGHT JOHN.  WHAT IS THE DOWNSIDE? NONE AS I SEE IT. THOSE THAT LIKE THE CLUB WILL GLADLY FORK OVER $25/YEAR FOR DUES. AND WHAT IS THE ENFORCEMENT FOR NON-PAYING MEMBERS? DOES ANYONE CHECK MEMBERSHIP AT OUR MONTHLY MEETINGS, WORKSHOPS, OR SWAP-MEETS?  NO.  SO LET THE WORLD SEE OUR BROADCASTER, LIKE ALL THE OTHER FREE POSTED VIDEOS. ROB

To all and the BoardNewsletters should be free and posted on the club web page to attract new members.  If you want the club to grow, publicity works. And the newsletter is good publicity.--
