[NJARC] Opening a Simpson 269

Greetings Everyone!

I picked up a very nice Simpson 269 VOM  for $5 at the flea market
yesterday. Seems to work perfectly for AC and DC volts, but I'd like to get
inside and change out the battery to get full functionality out of it. I
unscrewed the four screws on the back of it, but the back cover won't budge
a millimeter. Am I missing something here? Is there a trick to it, or are
my worst fears reality in that the battery let go and the resultant mess is
what's holding it shut?
