Thanks Chuck,

I did get it fixed last night. I'm working on some pictures. That was a good video. My coil is slightly different, but has the same function.

Please stand by as I get to the rest of the story.

Regards,

Joe

It's been my experience that the break in those Philco coils is where the outer winding makes a 90 degree bend and then down to the solder lug. If it is this outer winding, carefully lift it up out of the wax until you get to the bend. It's part of the coil winding process that puts strain on the bend. Removing that one turn won't hurt anything. A stereo microscope really helps along with some dental tools.

If you are really desperate, you can send the coil to me and I'll check it out under the microscope. No guarantees though.

Does anyone have any experience with rewinding an Antenna Coil (IF) for a Philco 60? How about another Philco of similar vintage? I have one that has an open winding between terminals 2 and 3. If not, have you ever rewound a coil and could give some advise? I'm pretty sure I have the problem narrowed down. There is no signal generated by the LO and no voltage readings from either terminal 2 or 3. The ohms readings between the top lug and # 4 isn't close, but at least there is something. I'm also getting a reading between terminals 1 and 6. Once again, it's not close to the schematic.

I'd prefer to not rewind the entire coil. But, if in your experience, this is what's needed, then I'll give it a try. I've seen the info on Ron Ramirez's site and I'm hoping I can get some more shared experience from our members. The Philco 60 I am working on is from the Sept. 1934 production run. It incorporated quite a few of the improvements that Philco had for this radio.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Joe Devonshire
