[NJARC] How to remove Zenith Knobs from K731

Thanks to everyone for your help. Yes, when you remove the bottom screws and carefully, and slowly pull on the chassis, it comes out and leaves the knobs behind. Safety feature for a "HOT" chassis. To compound things, I had a Sams sheet for the chassis listed on the bottom of the case, 7K07. Well, you guessed it, they put a 7M07 in there. Not too different, but enough.

Regards,
Joe

Maybe the knob part on the inside of the radio has clips on them to keep from pulling out of the cabinet. I remember removing all of the chassis screws from the bottom of the cabinet and pulling the chassis out of the back of the cabinet - the knobs would stay fastened to the front of the cabinet. Good luck.

Hi everybody,

I'm stuck on how to get the tuning knob off of a Zenith K731. This radio dates from the early 1960's. I remember reading that they used some sort of lock to hold the knobs on as a safety feature. I just can't remember how to do it. Can anybody help with their knowledge on how to get the knob off? The photo below is not my radio. My radio looks far better.
I just need to get inside to replace the caps and, rebuild the IF's on this radio. Good old Zenith IF's, the quality went in, then the thunderstorm came out.

Thanks in advance for your help.
