[NJARC] DX Contest

Last week, when we had the Alberta Clipper and the temperature dropped into the teens, the Canadians on 690, 740, 800, 860, 900, and 1150(the country station) were coming in like gangbusters in Cranford NJ. Last night, although no exceptional reception was otherwise happening, there was a window here in the early evening when the Philadelphia stations were stronger than usual for some reason. WNTP on 990, that never comes in here at night due to a deep null protecting co channel CKGM in Montreal, was clearly audible. Also KYW 1060, usually buried by WEPN 1050 from nearby New York was listenable too. The WPHT on 1210 that is normally weak, was as strong as WLIB from New York on 1190! 1350 from York Pa was audible too, as was 1160 from Lehighton Pa. Really weird conditions that only lasted an hour or so. Did anyone else catch that?

Hi all. From my location in Pennsylvania conditions, so far, have ranged from good to very poor. Sunday evening and Monday were rather good. Logged some good DX. Tuesday I didn’t have much chance to play with the radios. When I did conditions were not good at all. Wednesday evening conditions were really bad - couldn’t even get AM740 to come in. Did get KXEL in later.
To Ed, WOR comes in fine at my site, but is often overrun by Radio Rebelde from Cuba. They are running at 200 kW.
