[NJARC] Fw: DTV Reception Map

AFAIK, DTV frequencies are the same as the old analog frequencies except that the low VHF bands, channel 2 through 6, are gone as well as the upper end of the UHF band. I have gone "off grid" and get all of the commercial channels here in Hot Springs, AR.
Most of the transmitters are just below Little Rock, about 60 miles away. PBS and Fox are due east and the rest of the commercial stations are NNE on Shinall Mountain at an elevation of 1000 feet. As luck has it, my location and the transmitter antennas are elevated above the line of sight distance but low flying aircraft do interfere for a few minutes every now and then.
The antennas are in the attic so corrosion is a non issue. The local trees don't seem to be in the line of sight path either. One NOS Radio Shack long distance VHF / UHF antenna is aimed due east for PBS and Fox and two UHF stacked bow tie antennas take care of all of the stations on Shinall Mountain so ABC, CBS, NBC and two other independents come in nice and clear.
CBS and ABC have three different programming channels while PBS has four so we get 14 channels, 15 if you count VTN. Don't really miss cable since most of the programs are pretty much dumbed down and on an endless repeating schedule.
We also have streaming video off of the internet and the wife has Amazon Prime so we bought the $100 "box." Discovered Pluto which has quite a bit of "Nova" style programming. There is a lot of repeat programming on Pluto too but it changes monthly. Never thought I would like the 24/7 cat channel or Neil Tyson 24/7, but I do get a kick out of it every now and then! PBS is there too so all of the recent programs are available if I missed it OTA.
So all in all, I am quite happy with the way things have turned out. Might invest in the Channel Master OTA DVR but so far, the lost convenience of going back to catch a missed word or two hasn't been a real problem.Jim

Recently at BJ's I saw 2 or 3 DTV antennas for sale. Up here in Maine, between Bangor and Portland, I'm about 50 miles or so from any antenna and my neighbors don't seem to have much luck with reception. Although, on the other hand, they're not using a dtv antenna. Just the same, I've been considering giving it a try to get off of the cable. I have no interest in satellite. What I liked about one of the selections from BJ's was the duplex antenna. It kind of reminded me of a stacked beam set side to side. BTW... while we are on this subject, have you considered trees, buildings, and elevation? I have some elevation, it's the trees that I can't see through. The antenna, reception and map info that I've found most useful were
from the web sites listed below. TVFool worked best for me, pretty
active forums provide one with feedback on what antenna might be the
best to use. The antenna question becomes one of availabilty as OTA
antennas are becoming a bit more scarce. Sure miss the days of
RadioShack's on every street corner (at least it seemed that way).
