I'm repairing (or attempting) to repair a Zenith Cobra-Matic turntable
that's part of a ca. 1959 Zenith AM/FM/Phono console.
The manual reject doesn't work, nor will it shut down at the end of the
record.
Looking at the attached photo, The problem is obviously the large gear
(green) not rotating to engage the platter gear (blue).
When the selector is moved to the Reject position, rod (yellow) moves
and pushes against bar (red).
Likewise, when the arm reaches the end of the record, the other end of
bar (white) also engages bar (red).
None of theses actions has any effect on gear (green).
If I manually rotate large gear (green) to engage the platter gear
(blue) all works according to Hoyle.
The problem seems to be with the (red) bar.
I did notice that the release in the spindle will not retracr to drop
the record when I manually activate the mechanism, but I'm hoping that
will be "small potatoes" after I figure out the main problem.
I've searched but cannot find any literature on the mechanism. Can
anyone (Phil??) help?
Thanks,
Bill
