What would you do if you were the boss? Friday night Alex Magoun, outreach
historian of the IEEE History Center, will pose that question for a series
of decisions that RCA's leaders had to make during its 67 years in
business. From 1919 to 1986, presidents and CEOs weighed choices over how
to justify its existence, protect its intellectual assets, focus its
business, make a profit, and prepare for the future in the face of constant
questions, disputes, options, competition, and uncertainty. These are
issues familiar to anyone running a business today, and here they also
reflect the evolution of information and communications technologies in the
20th century.
