Got a couple of bucks to spare for a worthwhile cause?
InfoAge has begun a fundraising campaign to turn the TIROS dish into a
working exhibit. A team from Princeton University is working on restoring
the dish itself to working condition for use in scientific research.
InfoAge hopes to create an educational display for visitors there. This
means work on walls, bathrooms, exhibit space, etc. Already, in just a week
or so, almost $2,000 has come in.
The dish is by far the most visible thing about InfoAge to visitors. For
those who haven't seen it, it's on the other side of Marconi Road from our
Radio Technology Museum.
If this sounds interesting to you, please consider making a donation; I
did. http://www.crowdrise.com/SavetheDish/fundraiser/NJARC (Important:
note that there is an "optional processing fee" automatically added to your
contribution. You can reduce or eliminate that amount before you commit to
pay.)
There's a funny video they made to promote the project that you can watch
on YouTube: bit.ly/1nBywLG (You may recognize the setting.)
