An interesting question. I never watched the series either. The
www.radiomuseum.org page lists a number of models using the same case
and dial. At least one, the 7S232, has a selectable 6-volt DC vibrator
input. http://www.nostalgiaair.org/PagesByModel/317/M0025317.pdf That
would satisfy the off-the-grid scenario, and might account for spending
the extra money for a proper "farm set" rather than a cheap ($20-ish)
AC/DC radio. Of course it's all fiction anyway.
