[NJARC] speakers

I am restoring a philco 47-1230 and have finished changing all of the caps
including the electrolytics. The speaker cone is badly damaged but using
speaker glue, I repaired the cone as best as possible to do a test.
there are four speaker wires connected to a four prong plug that connects to
the speaker. the wires were broken off so my first job was to try and figure
out the correct connection for the wires (green, white, orange and red).
Using clips and a meter I managed to get a very low volume station (at full
volume) and now nothing after moving one of the clips on the speaker and a
few pops then nothing.
So my questions....Is there a way to test a speaker to make sure that it is
working and how can I make sure that I have everything connected correctly.
The schematic does not help with color code for wires or with any
information about the speaker etc.
thanks
