Dear Walt & Aaron:

Excuse me for not mentioning previously...it's not the tube saver...I found
that one in the wiring...and on the schematic & parts list....got the
schematic on Nostalgia as per the Philco number..

See no varistor...is that a long slim wirewound?

Sooooooo...the tube wiring is correct...

I'll just replace that big 47K carbon...what wattage is 1-1/8 inches long x
1/2 diameter...??...hard to imagine that much current to actually split the
carbon like a knife slicing it lengthwise....!!...Hmmmm...what caused
THAT????

Might you be able to email YOUR schematic....

Tnx,
S

To quote the Philco service sheet, "R12 100", "tube saver resistor approx 880 ohms at room temperature." If I did all my math. correctly, with a resistor rated at 100 ohms with 0.15 amp. going through it, it drops 15 volts. Adding all the tubes and the resistor, that's an operating voltage of 122.8 volts. The service sheet says 105 to 120 volts so I guess I'm on target so far. 15 volt drop times 0.15 amps. gives 2.25W dissipation. You should double the wattage to be safe.
