In Sayreville, NJ, we lost power Monday afternoon and got it back Sunday
evening. My Harbor Freight $90 (with coupon) generator powered one of my
refrigerators all week. Ran the generator about 5 hours a day and it kept
all the stuff cold and unspoiled. Also charged my cell phone and some
rechargeable battery flashlights. Fortunately, we have a gas stove and
gas water heater so we cooked hot meals each day and had hot water. Wife
and I (both with very sexy multi- layers of clothing and head lamps), and
both dogs, spent the evenings in candlelight on the sofa watching the
radio. Temps in most rooms never went below 55 degrees during the
various evenings. I bought the generator this past summer to use at
various flea markets to power and demonstrate stuff I was selling.
Probably one of my better $90 investments. This is the first time in my
area during the past 40 years, that I can remember, the power outage
lasting more then 10 hours so having a "biggy" multi-KW generator was
never a consideration.
