Yes I agree, if they want to use a real one, they should let the vacuum out first.  Then all they have to worry about is broken glass if it is dropped.

Carrying around a real CRT is a BAD idea.  Especially something as big as a 12"er.
Can you say implosion?
Print a nice large format photo of a CRT and mount on foam core board then cut to size.
