Sounds like your range select switch, has "de-indexed" that is, the switch is not in the same posistion as the knob is indicating. Turn the meter to the far left or right setting, and see if the knob points to the lowest setting, or if it points off the settings. Otherwise, it could be a resistor has gone off........
