Re TTY: Cool!

Re 1306: no problem, I mentioned it to you once before, and thought maybe you
had either forgotten, or were more desperate for one now. If you ever encounter
a "junker" with the cage (or grill), let me know.

Hi John,

Hold that thought on the BC-1306.  We really need one with the grill.  I think
the GRC-9 is bigger.

Re:  teletype  Snellman oiled it up.  I built an RS-232 to current loop
converter.  (I'm a computer hardware guy, so that wasn't too bad.)  We only left
a little smoke out of the selector magnet while klutzing around.  I discovered
that TTY guys are even crazier than radio folks.  On of them wrote a piece of
software, "Heavy Metal," that grabs AP new and other stuff off the web, converts
it to 5-bit Baudot code, and put it out the serial port.  FM principle, I
suppose.  We're hoping we can set it up so an innocent bystander can send us a
text message from their cellphone.  We have a guy in Argentina that's supposed
working on that.

Can any of you hack Perl Scripts?

Al

Hi Al, Nice display! How did you get the Teletype working? I'll bet it's a long
story.... I have a BC-1306 that I would be happy to loan (for an extended time)
to the display. If nothing else, it fills that "hole" until a better one comes
along. Mine is actually in pretty good shape, but some enterprising soul
(probably a 1950's ham) removed the "cage." I can bring it to the next meeting,
if you'd like to take a look at it. Regards, John PS -- looking for HA-19

Radio Technology Museum Wants Just remember Reply = Poster Reply All =
Everyone _________________________________________________________ Gang, We
did a preview opening of our WWII Tactical Communication Display last Sunday to
coincide with the InfoAge VJ-day observance.  You can see a few grab shots
here: http://www.rtm.ar88.net/Tac_Comm/Tac_Comm.html We intend to cover wire
line and radio relay (ANTRAC) as well as the usual radio stuff.  There are a
number of thing we're looking for. We have the TX and RX for an AN/TRC-8 on
display.  Need an AS-52/TRC-8 antenna, just the corner reflectors, no room for
the mast.  Has anyone held on to a CF-1 multiplexer to go with it?  That's sure
to be a heavy beast.  Closer to New Jersey is better.  I guess I'd switch to
AN/TRC-1 if one showed up. SCR-508 Tank Radio:  Need a mount.  A proper tanker
helmet would be a good thing too. One of the Jeep Radios SCR-509/510/609/610
and an SCR-300 walkie-talkie would help complete the FM picture. (BTW, this is
the site where Armstrong demonstrated the regen receiver to David Sarnoff in
1914.) Wire and Cable:  Looking for some short sections of WWII field- and
assault-wire.  Would also like to have samples of spiral-four cable to
compliment the ANTRAC. SCR-694:  Need a real BC-1306 rather than the ersatz
RT-77/GRC-9 in the pix. The crazy stuff:  (People in Hell want ice water.)
M-94 or M-209 cipher devices. Budget is limited, so don't expect to make a big
score.  We are a 501-C-3 corp. if the donation angle works for you. Thanks in
advance, Al
