For those who were following the recent saga of the Hallicrafters SX-16, I am proud to report all seems operational, as of last week. BFO, though quiet, is operating. Wish it was louder, but it is better than nothing- I at least can "Zero-beat" now.

The BC-348 which I also took to Info Age the other week, is quite happily operational. Just have to build a proper speaker setup for it to operate without headphones.

The HT-37 is at the same point as when I left- the transformer is about 1/2 way installed, and I have to install a few new electrolytics I got from John.

As a side note, I have repaired the Hammarlund HQ-100 (John D.- I was looking for you at the meeting tonight! I am hoping you will be at Info Age Swapmeet in July, and we can get squared up!) The problem was, as soon as I hooked it up to the new antenna a few months back, the squirrelly volume issue I'd been having went terminal. Not to say the antenna was the cause, however. I did some deductive(inductive?) reasoning trouble shooting, and determined that I was getting nice signal indications on the S-mater, varying as required with different control input alterations, so I decided it had to be in the output end of the house. So I went the easy route, and started tracking the tubes. I pulled and tested the Audio Power Output, tube V8, a 6AQ5. Testing came back DEAD... So I figured I had a lead- now to find one! After digging through several badly packed boxes of tubes, and finding many useless(for this job) ones, The God of Crap saw fit to bless my
endeavors(for which I thank him) with a somewhat used 6AQ5- the only one I managed to find! And it tested fine! So I installed it. I shoulda known something was positive when I plugged it into its socket- I got a little crackle from the speaker: and the unit was unplugged! I figure that was a little capacitance discharge, although I do not know the whole circuit.

Long story less so: The unit now operates with booming volume!

Yay!

My next few projects will be getting the HT-37 on line, finishing a bastardized job of a BC-348 for the CAF, and getting the P-26 power supply on line. Once those are out of the way, back to the Heathkit stuff- HR, HX & HP-20 Receiver, Transmitter & Power Supply.

Then, one day, I will rest...

Scott
