[NJARC] Club selling High Value items on Ebay

Hi Scott,

Is somebody paying you by the word? ;-)

I'll try to keep this short: IMHO, we are NOT being greedy, we are being realistic. As I've said before, I have NO problem whatsoever with you getting a $100 radio for $50, or even a $200 radio for $100. You're happy, and the club puts some money in the treasury. That's all well and good. And what you do with the item is your business -- if you want to sell it later, hopefully you can turn a profit (or at least break even).

HOWEVER, our primary responsibility is to the long-term health of the club and its treasury. The problem comes with certain high-end items that most members are unwilling or unable to pay Fair Market Value for. This scenario has happened already. If the NJARC foolishly sells a $1,000 item for $200 at an auction, there is FAR too much incentive for the buyer to immediately turn around and re-sell it -- either on ebay or thru other channels. THE CLUB should benefit from the sale of such high-end items, NOT a single opportunistic member.

I think you can be assured that the vast majority of items will still be offered to members via our club auctions.

JR
