To all:
It's a shame that the club will loose its meeting place at the Sarnoff Library; however, it's fortunate that the club already has a backup place to meet at InfoAge .
Now that I am retired, the drive from my home to InfoAge is roughly 80 miles - 1 hour, 45 minutes - each way. (Mainly because of I-195 and not too much traffic.)
The drive from my home to Sarnoff is roughly 65 miles. The drive time is the same, or more! (All backroads and towns at "rush hour.")
My vote is for InfoAge at this point. Sarnoff would be my choice if I were still working as the drive from Newtown was only a half-hour, or less, but...
I, too, volunteer at InfoAge . I try to get there every Wednesday for the work day as well as many Sunday's for museum duty.
As for the plethora of auctions we have, it's not unusual for clubs to have an auction at every meeting. ( DVHRC and MAARC ) The auction occurs at the end of the meeting - after the business and technical sessions are over. If you don't want to stay for the auction, you don't have to. Some members like the auctions as they enable them to increase or thin out their collections. Time limits at Sarnoff forced the action to become the meeting's main emphasis.
NJARC has developed a good reputation of getting the word out to the community. This opens up the opportunity for estates and collections to be made available. Usually the stuff has to go (and go fast) lest the stuff end up in the landfill.
I believe that InfoAge holds a lot of potential for NJARC and its future; however, I realize that all will not agree with me.
Let's keep a great club going.
