If the short is from the filament to the cathode, an isolation transformer
would solve the problem. You see them on Ebay frequently as picture tube
boosters, etc. - just make sure you get the right one - series or parallel
design.

He correctly guessed that the heater to cathode was shorted in the CRT.  I
swapped CRT's with one from my Holiday Predicta and the sat plays nicely.
Now....  I gotta lay my hands on another 21 EAP4 picture tube!  Anyone have
