Hi Scott,
All is not lost. Did you run the transformer without a
load (no tubes at all), just to see how it behaved, as
Jim Whartenby suggested? Or, just run it with *no*
rectifier tube for a while, but with all other tubes
in, and check the warmth of the transformer. The
rectifier tube meltdown appears to have stressed the
xformer, but it may still be OK.
I just checked the schematic -- I happened to run into
the SX-16 while looking for Grunow chassis 5V.
The headphones are on the 5K winding from the output
transformer. So, temporarily, pull just *one* 6V6 and
use an 80 for a rectifier.
On another note --
Bob Bennett -- My Rider's (Vol. 9) goes up to chassis
5Q, but no 5V. Hmmmm....
