REMEMBERING I have a very happy VTVM built into my Precision Tube
Tester/Set Tester (d'oh!) I went back and rechecked a few values:
Most seem to be within spec, however, I still have the problem
with the Beat Osc. section.
The tubes all checked out OK.
Happily the Precision set is pretty durable. When you don't use
something for a bit, brain gas is created, and brain farts
result. I say this because, in my stupidity, I was testing the
315VDC of the output tubes. The set can handle up to 6000vdc...
So I made the settings, and proceeded to be amazed by the heavy
blue arc I got when I touched the probe tip to the lug, with no
movement of the meter. I pulled away, and was amazed again- a
nice heavy blue arc... So I looked over my settings. It was set
for 6000 OHMS... Shazbut. Looked at the book, found my mistake,
reset the knobs to 12v meter and reconnected the leads into the
1200vt holes- Then made my connections(neat-no arc) and read just
about 3.2v. Multiplied by 100, 315-320vdc. Just right... SO I
rechecked the meter for ohms- works ok. Sturdy Machine- despite
my being stupid...
I have to stop working on the set for now- going to Md for the
weekend. If anyone comes up with any ideas what to look at with
regard to the Beat Oscillator, please drop a note!
Thanks!
Scott
