Yes, 64 turns looks about right - I stopped counting at 50!!  So, that makes 20.1' of wire plus several inches for the leads.  Lots of wire in such a tiny space.  

Here's my next challenge:  The plastic insulating shield between the coils is yellowed and badly split (probably contributed to the open circuit). I want to cut a strip of heavy paper to replace it (plain notepad).  How does paper stand up to 250V of B+ ?  Should I be considering a different material?
