The rebates are applicable only to the purchase of special, stripped-down
converters that do absolutely nothing other than pass the DTV signal
through as analog signal. No EPG, no line out, no nuthin'. Although
that's basically the same lack of options you would be currently getting
via your rabbit ears, these featureless boxes are likely to *not* be in
demand. (And curiously the manufacturers don't seem to be in any hurry to
make something that people are not likely to want ;-) Some folks suspect
that the qualifying boxes may never be made in quantities that would make
them less expensive than a fully featured converter -- or an inexpensive
new television!
