[NJARC] Resizing Photos

We should distinguish between Marv's role as editor and publisher and now less frequently writer of
the newsletter, and the role that Dave implies, archivist of the club's photographic history. Maybe
one day we will want an 8' by 12' blow-up of someone holding their show 'n' tell goodie, but saving
that digital file is not Marv's job. All he's asking for is that members sending him photos to
resize them to 4"x5" in advance at 300dpi, preferably in hi-res jpeg mode so that he doesn't spend
more of his time reformatting during layout and composition. This kind of request is little
different than asking writers to submit articles in a particular style and format. Given the amount
of time and skill Marv puts into giving us a professionally neat newsletter every month, I think
that's the least helpful photo suppliers can do.
Someone else might volunteer to begin maintaining a digital archive of the Club's history, with
photo files suitably titled and organized by date, subject, location, etc. Some of this is
automatically generated by the camera and some is not; the filing system, storage, migration, and
backup are up to the person assuming the position, who might get a start on the subject by visiting
www.dlib.org/dlib/march00/moore/03moore-pt1.html, from which pt2 follows.
best,
Alex
