John,

I worked in Bordentown for a couple of years and wish I could have stayed.
You are correct, it is a hidden treasure for all of us. It is also a stop on
the River LINE which is an inexpensive way to get to Philadelphia or
Atlantic City via PATCO. The first weekend of October brings the annual Cranberry
Fest. Plenty of good food and fun. Many of the shops run sidewalk sales.

You can find out more at http://www.downtownbordentown.com/

As for cloth covered wire, I recently restored an antique fan and needed
green cloth covered wire. If you need stranded cloth covered wire as a
replacement for line cord, Radio Daze has it in 18 Gauge in multiple colours. I
remember buy some of the brown wire from App's when I was there.

The Record Collector has been around for about 20 years. He's moved the
store from Trenton to Morrisville and now to Bordentown. I have found him
to always be fair with his pricing. Another good record store I found a
couple of years ago is in Ocean City, NJ. It is called GrassRoots Music on Asbury
Ave near 11th St. The Record Collector has a better selection of 45's, but
I like both. Of course the Princeton Record Exchange has its own reputation.

I remember years ago when I joined the club, that I was given a paper
with sources for parts and reference materials. Do we still maintain that list
and offer it to new members? It might even prove useful to all members if
updated. We all have our favourite sources for parts and most know the
popular ones, but what about those sources for the unusual items? How about a
source for transistors? Especially those from the early transistor radios.
Cross reference and substitute info.

Any thoughts or opinions about this idea? I wouldn't mind helping
assemble this.

Regards,
Joe Devonshire

Sorry, this earlier went to Dave Sica *only* by
mistake...

Hi Folks,

Took a trip down to App's Hardware in Bordentown
today.
The place looks like it's been there forever -- my
kinda place. They have the silk-covered line-cord wire
(well, it looks like silk, I guess it's a synthetic)
59 cents per foot. They have two colors: gold and
brown. I couldn't decide which color I like better, so
I bought 20 feet of each. It will really look nice on
those classic 30's wood sets, assuming I ever get
around to restoring one. Nice folks working there -- a
step back in time.

Right down the block on the opposite side of the
street is the Record Collector, which has a very
atatrctive art-deco facade. Great place also! Loads of
albums, 45s and CDs in all price ranges. Owner was
very friendly and interesting to talk to.

Farnsworth Ave. (the name should appeal to you TV
collectors) has lots of nice shops, a few antique
shops, lots of nice places to eat. A very nice area --
I recommend a trip down there.

My thanks to John Timinski for recommending App's.

Regards,

John
