[NJARC] Hallicrafters Keyer (HA-1)

Well, my e-bay procured HA-1 "T.O." keyer arrived
today, and, as I noticed in the photos, it has some
sort of solid state mod attached to the back(why do I
keep buying stuff with weird mods?!) It also arrived
with a little mouse residue, which I cleaned off
easily,(except for the cigarette odor, possibly caused
by the 3 cigarette butts! guess the mouse was a
smoker) but the staining on the top of the chassis
won't come off... Underneath looks fine, tho.

The mod looks like a bunch of resistors and disc caps
with a couple transistors, all simply arranged, and
wired into the OA1 tube, and the back of the octal
wiring connector on the back, pins 1,3,4,6,7.

Anybody have any theories what the mod may be for? I
haven't tried powering up yet...
