To all,
Thanks for responding. This is quite an interesting discussion! I appreciate the help and suggestions.
Al, some of the issues you brought up are the very reason I am asking the question. Sure, I am considering just stringing a bunch of 9 volts together but I wanted to look into a switching supply just in case. Others here have mentioned the short life of the battery and I figured that. It is more the novelty I am looking at rather than the absolute functionality. How much do I really listen to AM anyway. Well I do more now!
And yes, the parts were the issue finding suitable transformers and the such. But I see Harry sent me a design and has a parts list so maybe that clears it all up. I guess the shielding might be a problem as you point out but Harry says his is not too affected because it looks like a lower frequency and maybe it is less likely to pick up noise.
But maybe if I do not like the switcher I will stick with the batteries.
But thanks to all again. So much to think about!
