Edward, I have a lot of experience with old TVs and we can discuss yours at the upcoming clinic if you plan to attend. Many of the problems are the same as radios, namely power supplies and capacitors although the TV sets also have a high voltage power supply which takes special care and knowledge. If the flyback or yoke is bad you are in trouble but the early ones were pretty rugged. See you on June 2nd. Nick Senker

>This weekend I saw an old TV for sale at a flea market and the price was so low I couldn’t resist myself. The set is a RCA Victor TG-167 chassis number KSC40A. I checked the Sam’s Photofact for it and that seems to indicate it is a 1950 maybe a 1949.

I assume most of the rest of the parts are obtainable. Is this true? Also does anyone know what the set is worth in general terms so I get an idea how much I should be willing to invest to gain it second life? And does anyone have any tips on how to proceed? It looks like it could be fun. The cabinet is actually in good shape.
