[NJARC] question on old AC Plugs

Hello all,

As I am working my first old radio I have a sad story of the AC plug. I
wanted to use as much of the old hardware as possible but it appears the old
AC plug cannot be a part of that. I was amazed to find the plug was not able
to be disassembled. It must have been crimped or soldered internally and
then molded around the plugs. Is this the way they did things in general in
those years? Anyway the darn thing was open inside and the braids were
broken at the very base and my only recourse would be to solder to the base
of the metal portion of the plug and hope for it not to come apart and short
out and that is just not a chance I feel comfortable with. The plug itself
is somewhat ornate and it is a shame. Any ideas or thoughts?

Edward
